Who we are
We are a team of local Speech and Language Therapists who work with children and young people living in Bath and the surrounding areas including parts of Wiltshire and Somerset such as Bradford on Avon and Trowbridge.
Our private service has been established in the Bath area for a number of years and we have a good relationship with the local nurseries and schools. We have also built good links with the Speech and Language Therapists from both Sirona NHS and Virgin NHS to ensure we provide the optimum care for your child.
We are a team of nine experienced Speech and Language Therapists each with our own areas of expertise. Your child will be matched with one of our Therapists who has the specialist skills to support your child's specific communication needs. We can work with your child at a time and location suitable to you.
We support children to develop a range of speech and language skills including:
⚬ Articulating speech sounds
⚬ Understanding spoken language
⚬ Vocabulary and sentence construction
⚬ Social interaction
⚬ Stammer / stutter
⚬ Selective mutism
The Bath Speech Therapy team are all fully qualified Speech and Language Therapists who are registered with the Royal Collage of Speech and Language Therapists (RCSLT) and Health and Care Professions Council (HCPC).

Our history
Bath Speech Therapy was set up by Rachel Smith, Independent Speech and Language Therapist to provide a highly specialist Speech and Language Therapy service for the children living in her local area in Bath, Somerset and Wiltshire.
Rachel qualified from Birmingham City University as a Speech and Language Therapist in 2005. She then spent the next eight years working for the NHS with children who had a wide range of communication difficulties, including speech disorders, developmental verbal dyspraxia, hearing impairment, stammer/stutter, autism and language disorders.
In 2008 Rachel was awarded the 'Michael Palin award' from the Michael Palin Stammering Centre in London for her research paper in the area of stammering. This paper was presented at an international conference.
Alongside her work for the NHS Rachel worked for Stoke Speaks Out, an organisation which provides training for professionals who work with children. She worked with the team to develop and present specialised speech and language courses.
Rachel has completed a number of additional specialist training courses in the areas of speech disorders, language development and stammering/stuttering and now specialises in working with children who need support with these skills.
The Bath Speech Therapy team has now grown to a team of nine experienced Speech and Language Therapists each with their own area of expertise to ensure your child received the specialist support they require.
